INSOMNIA
“At midnight I rise
to give you thanks for your righteous laws”.
Psalm 119:62
Have you ever had
trouble getting to sleep in the nighttime? Have you ever awoken in the middle
of the night over the stress that life sometimes brings? The scriptures give us
good advice and really an actual antidote for a poor night’s sleep. It seems
that at the end of our day, our worries seem to rise up.
One of the famous
insomniacs in the Bible was King Ahasuerus. When he could not sleep he did
extra reading which led him to discover that Mordecai had not been honoured for
his courage in discovering the plot against the king. His reading was what
ultimately led to the deliverance of God’s people seen in Esther 6.
Another two famous
insomniacs are found in Acts 16:25 which states “And at midnight Paul and Silas
prayed, and sang praises unto God.” In their insomnia and terrible conditions
they found the strength to sing praises. If you have trouble sleeping and
worries are on your mind don’t count sheep, talk to the Shepherd, read bout the
Shepherd; it will bless your heart and maybe you will discover something
new.
