The Map to Perfect Peace
You will keep in
perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. -
Isaiah 26:3
A retired couple
decided they would start walking two miles a day to stay in shape. The lived
out in the country, so they thought they would walk a mile down their lonely
country road, and then turn around and come back.
On the first day,
they made it out to the one-mile mark just fine. As they began to turn around
to walk back, the man asked his wife, “Can you make it back or are you too
tired?”
The wife responded,
“Oh, I’m great. I can make it just fine!”
“Good,” the man
replied, “I’ll just wait here while you go back, get the car, and come get me!”
In the middle of
life’s challenges, it’s always tempting to find the easiest way out possible.
Maybe you’re looked down upon because of your faith, so you’re tempted to
compromise. Or, perhaps you’re struggling with depression, so you’re tempted to
numb the pain in a way that doesn’t honor the Lord.
The right way out of
a hard situation isn’t always the shortest. So in hard times, seek God’s
guidance in prayer and in Scripture. That’s where you’ll find the road map to
His perfect peace.
Prayer Challenge
Pray and ask God to
give you guidance when it comes to finding the right way out of a tough
situation.
Questions for
Thought
Think of a time when
you’ve taken the quickest way out of a hard situation instead of seeking God’s
guidance. Would things have perhaps turned out better if you’d sought God’s
will first?
If the quickest fix were
always the right one, we wouldn’t need God’s guidance. How can you be more
intent on finding God’s right response when you face hard times?
