How to Overcome Death and Gain Life
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. -
1 Corinthians 15:22
The family of Harry Bliss surely had no clue that their mourning
would inaugurate a tide of death rarely seen before in human history. The year
was 1899 in New York City, and Harry was the very first person to be killed in
an automobile accident. Since Harry’s death, more than 3.5 million people have
died from car crashes in the United States alone.
Few could have imagined that Harry would be the first of millions
of casualties from car crashes. The attitude was probably much the same when
the first man, Adam, introduced spiritual death into the world. He and Eve
probably never understood the full consequences of eating the fruit.
Today, we see those consequences in pain, suffering, and death all
over the world. In fact, there’s no place we can go to escape the results of
Adam’s disobedience so long ago.
That’s why Jesus came. Because though we may die in Adam, we are
made alive in Christ. Now that doesn’t mean we escape all the results of sin.
But we do look forward to the day when sin will be no more… when death,
sickness, and sadness are a distant memory.
Jesus reversed the curse of Adam. Thank God for that truth and
trust in Him to overcome death!
